2023 NC Main Street Champion
Terry McCartney is a property owner, investor, leader, and entrepreneur in Uptown Shelby and the City of Shelby. A Shelby native, she is a strong advocate for the growth and success of Uptown. Currently, Terry is the owner and operator of the Rail Trail Boardwalk. This is a million dollar plus investment in Uptown Shelby, bringing a retail and restaurant mix to the district. Terry has employed an all-female crew of subcontractors, project managers, and even the tenants occupying the space. In November of 2023, the Rail Trail Boardwalk opened, including two retail shops, one restaurant, and one coffee and wine bar lounge.
This investment will bring more foot traffic and economic vitality, creating a “third space” for individuals to spend time and patronize Uptown Shelby. Before the Rail Trail Boardwalk, she organized and planned the Uptown Shelby Freedom Fest, owned, and operated several businesses, and currently owns and oversees commercial and residential real estate in Shelby. Terry is a mother of two daughters and grandmother of two granddaughters. She strongly believes in the importance of females making a positive difference in the community in which they reside.
