2024 NC Main Street Champion
Nearly every weekend, and on special days like Juneteenth, Pride, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and more, there is an event in Downtown Salisbury. The City of Salisbury Public Works Department is a group of unsung heroes who go above and beyond their duties, staying as late as 3 a.m. after events to clean the streets, sidewalks, and dispose of trash, ensuring that residents and visitors continue to be drawn to Downtown Salisbury - the center of activity for the community.
But their efforts don't stop there. They sacrifice their personal time to ensure sidewalks are safe, potholes are filled, trash is emptied, litter is picked up, planters are watered and weeded, and buildings and grounds are maintained. These employees show up early and stay late, working hard out of sight of the public, ensuring that downtown looks its best.
There is never a question of whether the Public Works staff will assist with downtown needs; it’s simply a matter of making the call, and they show up ready to make Downtown Salisbury a safer, cleaner, and more attractive place for all who live, work, or play there.
Salisbury is thrilled to honor the City of Salisbury Public Works Department as its 2024 North Carolina Main Street Champion.
