Joel & Jeannine Sowers and Robin Bailey: Sylva

Writer: StaffStaff

2024 NC Main Street Champion

The contributions of the Sowers family and their manager, Robin Bailey, have had a significant and lasting impact on Downtown Sylva and its Main Street program. In 2013, Sundog Commercial Properties acquired a historic 11,000-square-foot funeral home on Main Street, transforming it into a vibrant space for Fusions Spa and Wellness. The spa now attracts a steady flow of both locals and visitors. The Sowers family and Robin Bailey have generously offered the spa courtyard for community events and regularly host children's programs during downtown festivals and parades.

Jeannine Sowers has been an active supporter of the Main Street program for nearly 10 years. Along with Robin Bailey, she has served on both the Promotions Committee and the Board of Directors. Their efforts go above and beyond, from helping acquire decorations at cost to donating school supplies, sponsoring community organizations, and offering perks and discounts to local police, fire, and military personnel.

In 2017, the Sowers family purchased a former law office, renovating it for office space rentals and activating another vacant space in the downtown area. More recently, they acquired another vacant building and are currently transforming it into a new location for their restaurant, which will help bring even more vibrancy to the downtown district. In total, the three buildings will create approximately 50 new jobs.

Sylva is deeply grateful for the love, passion, and investment they have shown to Downtown Sylva. It is with great pleasure that Sylva recognizes Jeannine and Joel Sowers, and Robin Bailey as its 2024 North Carolina Main Street Champions.
