With roots in the field of horticulture, Jessica Smith is an invaluable asset to Uptown Roxboro. In 2015, Jessica approached the City with one simple question, “How can I help?” A non-native resident of the area, she noticed there were places that could use some TLC. She quickly formed a relationship with the Main Street Manager, then started to work on planning projects and seeking corporate sponsors to help with costs. Over the years, Jessica has garnered support from other adult and student volunteers for this effort, spending countless hours planting, watering, weeding, and fertilizing along Main Street. Her wonderful personality, and a knack for making work fun and educational, has increased the interest of local youth in Uptown projects. Recognizing her selfless donation of time and energy to make Uptown Roxboro even more beautiful, the Roxboro Development Group is thrilled to name Jessica Smith a North Carolina Main Street Champion!
