Ronnie Michael: Albemarle

2021 NC Main Street Champion

For over three decades, Mayor Ronnie Michael has tirelessly served the community of Albemarle. Following his retirement as Police Chief, Michael served on City Council, then was elected Mayor in 2013. Joining the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation’s Board of Directors in 2013, Mayor Michael was instrumental in bridging the gap between the non-profit organization, City administration, and elected officials. He worked diligently behind the scenes to cultivate the renaissance that downtown Albemarle is experiencing today.

Mayor Michael’s vision prompted the property swap between Albemarle and Stanly County to bring Pfeiffer University’s Center for Health Sciences to downtown. The “Pfeiffer Effect” has brought a renewed interest in downtown Albemarle, spurring investment in commercial and residential projects, and breathing new life into vacant buildings. Mayor Ronnie Michael has dedicated himself to the Albemarle community as a selfless public servant.

Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation is proud to name Mayor Ronnie Michael as its NC Main Street Champion.
