2021 NC Main Street Champions
Paul and Kristin Thompson brought catalytic change to downtown Mooresville. In 2019, the couple bought the former Mooresville Ice Cream building on Broad Street, where ice cream manufacturing began in 1924. The building was used for decades for manufacturing, upper floor offices, and a small corner ice cream parlor. For several years prior to the purchase, it housed only the parlor and the rest of the building was lifeless. Paul and Kristin saw the building’s potential, had a vision for it, and brought it back to life. In renovating almost, the entire 21,000 square-foot building while creating six new retail spaces and eight new upper floor apartments, the Thompsons not only refurbished a building, but also activated Broad Street! By maintaining the building’s historic character, while bringing in modern amenities, they created a gem from a dark shell.
