The City of Newton’s Parks and Recreation employees exceed expectations when providing support for the events and activities in Downtown Newton. The Director and Assistant Director assisted the Promotions Committee with restructuring two downtown community events. Their input helped make the events economically beneficial for businesses while retaining their character and authenticity. The Maintenance Manager assists the Main Street Coordinator with materials and labor for every event. He regularly solves problems before the event staff and volunteers are even aware of issues. The other employees of the department always go out of their way to ask if there is anything further they can do before leaving an event. The employees of the City of Newton’s Parks and Recreation department are dependable, appreciated, and essential to the success of Downtown Newton. They are North Carolina Main Street Champions.
