Florence Grant - Spruce Pine

Florence “Flo” Grant fell in love with the mountains while attending Penland School of Craft in 1998. Twenty years later, she returned to make Spruce Pine her permanent home and immediately began working on projects to improve downtown. From scrubbing rusty fences to writing press releases, Flo is always willing to lend a helping hand. She has served as a volunteer on the Spruce Pine Main Street Design committee, the PR committee, and on the Board of Directors, and she recently accepted a nomination for its Executive Board.

At the onset of COVID-19, Flo led the initiative to create a community garden to address food insecurity and provide fresh, healthy produce to her neighbors. When asked why she is involved in so many downtown projects, Flo said with a smile, “Volunteering has always been a fun way to get to know some great people in my community while working together on projects that benefit the place I call home.”

Spruce Pine Main Street is pleased to honor Florence Grant as a North Carolina Main Street Champion.
