Town Alderman and longstanding community volunteer, Emily Sharpe, has been a key public servant and supporter for downtown Elon. Starting in February 2020, Ms. Sharpe began purchasing food and coffee from downtown businesses for the Elon Police and Fire Departments and delivering them weekly to the stations. When the pandemic hit and lockdown occurred, she began a GoFundMe initiative called the First Responders Fund to deliver meals to hospital staff and Elon first responders using Downtown Elon businesses. Her initiative raised over $5,000. She began the program in early April, and it continued through the end of May. Her efforts helped support Downtown Elon's local businesses and spread the word that they were open and operating.
Elon is proud to recognize Emily Sharpe’s service to Downtown Elon and the Elon community and is pleased to call her a North Carolina Main Street Champion.
