2022 NC Main Street Champion
Edna Lipe-Harkey not only contributes to the betterment of downtown Albemarle; she lives it. As a downtown resident, Edna has selflessly dedicated herself to the revitalization of downtown Albemarle. In the early nineteen nineties, she served on the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation Board of Directors, then again from two thousand twenty to two thousand twenty-two. During the last two years, Edna has held the Chairperson of the Board position.
Edna has served on many boards and committees for the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation and other area civic groups. She creates an environment that enhances and celebrates Downtown Albemarle’s rich cultural and historical assets. In addition to her work on the Board of Directors, Edna has served on the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation 's Holiday Tour of Homes fundraiser for the past ten years, co-chairing the event in two thousand twenty- two with her husband, Kent Harkey.
Edna has also assisted with beautification projects, such as the alleyway improvement initiative in two thousand eighteen and with seasonal flower and hanging basket plantings for many years. The Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation is proud to acknowledge Edna Lipe-Harkey's valuable contribution to Downtown Albemarle and her selection as the two thousand twenty- two Albemarle Main Street Champion.
