2021 NC Main Street Champion
Barbara Hughes has owned Narnia Studios, in downtown Hendersonville, for 27 years. Known for her creativity, Barbara has created and sponsored nine annual events that have made significant impacts to downtown Hendersonville. These events have become fixtures of Hendersonville, with the oldest, Chalk it Up!, entering its 26th year. Chalk It Up! began when Barbara's children were allowed to adorn the sidewalk in front of her store with vivid chalk drawings. The creative artform has blossomed into one of the most beloved and endearing events that downtown Hendersonville offers. Chalk It Up! now draws over 150 artists each year who turn Main Street into an outdoor art gallery with amazing chalk art. Barbara never stops thinking of ways to help make downtown Hendersonville a great place for the locals and tourists and is willing to lead such efforts.
Downtown Hendersonville owes Barbara Hughes a debt of gratitude and is honored to name her as its NC Main Street Champion.
