Ann Dergara, world-renowned artist and owner of Red Wolf Gallery in downtown Brevard, is a true champion of the arts and the Main Street program. Ann says, “When you increase the arts in an area, you increase the tourism.”
Nearly two decades ago Ann recognized something was missing in Brevard – public art. Single-handedly, she has raised funds and worked with local artists to create sculptures of native animals. The first project began in 2003 and resulted in a magnificent elk sculpture being placed outside of the courthouse. Splash the Otter, a Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center water feature, was installed in 2018. One of Brevard’s popular attractions, the Sculpture Walk now includes over a dozen works of public art on a path that drives visitors to a variety of downtown businesses. Heart of Brevard is grateful for Ann Dergara’s contributions to downtown and the economic traffic it has facilitated, and proudly recognizes her as a North Carolina Main Street Champion.
