The staff of the City of Lexington’s Business and Community Development office has been instrumental in assisting Uptown Lexington in projects throughout the district. In 2012, the City of Lexington created the office of Business and Community Development to specifically address retail recruitment and downtown area projects. Through partnerships, we have been able to recruit new businesses to Uptown and fill buildings that have been underutilized and vacant for more than a decade. The staff reviews permits for new and existing businesses and helps to properly prepare Main Street for numerous Uptown events. Not only is the staff wonderful during business hours, but most also volunteer countless hours to serve on committees and help with events.
