2023 NC Main Street Champion
Since 2019 Captain Rusty Singer has led Sanford’s Downtown Foot Patrol. A partnership between Downtown Sanford and the City of Sanford, this initiative has brought a sense of safety and community to the Central Business District. Captain Singer is a retired City of Sanford Police officer who continues to dedicate his time serving the community.
He works tirelessly to make sure there is an officer on foot to walk our streets two-hundred and forty hours per month, which includes visiting with the merchants, chatting with residents and visitors, and connecting those in need to resources. Captain Singer takes great pride in his ‘retirement work.’ We are truly grateful for his love of downtown Sanford and its residents and visitors, and for the integral part he plays in creating a place where we all feel safe to live, work, and play.
It is Downtown Sanford’s honor to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to Captain Rusty Singer by recognizing him as its 2023 North Carolina Main Street Champion.
