Bessemer City is known for their bee theme all around downtown. You can find bees in art, marketing materials and logo designs, etc.
But why bees?
Bessemer City identified their local schools as community assets. Three out of four have mascots with a bee theme. To connect their schools to their downtown, they organically kept the bee theme flowing into their downtown activities. By doing so, students and parents are engaged with their downtown and can continue their school spirit, within downtown. Do school mascots work in every community? No, however making connections with local schools and downtown has a lasting impact. Building downtown supporters starts early.
We think Bessemer City might BEE on to something .....
