2022 NC Main Street Champion
Patrick Sterchi, a self-professed "city boy,” might call Charlotte home but in two thousand nineteen and two thousand twenty, like many other business owners, he found himself questioning his business model. Patrick realized his business would need to shift to remain relevant. Curating a passion for restoration in the residential market, Patrick began to research the wave of revitalization happening to historic buildings in downtown cores. On a late Sunday afternoon, his search landed him in Newton gazing through windows, thinking to himself, "There is so much potential here." A neglected nineteen hundred and six building was Patrick's first Newton project. It successfully blended his passion for historic restoration with new spaces designed to meet twenty-first century needs. The street-level retail suite supports a new business with two full-time and one part-time employees. Upstairs, two new residential apartments are occupied. Patrick’s continued investment in Newton includes the largest building in downtown. The Haupt Building will yield a mixed-use structure supporting six new apartments, street level retail space, and a lower level with endless possibilities. Patrick's instinctive passion for revitalization makes him a catalyst for moving Downtown Newton forward. Newton is honored to name John Patrick Sterchi as its two thousand twenty-two Main Street Champion.
