2025 NC Main Street Champion

Wendy Cato has been a constant presence in Downtown Morganton’s story of growth and resilience.
“I’ve been around long enough to witness a great change in downtown. After the big box stores left, I saw Main Street work hard to bring small businesses downtown so we could continue to be the center of our community.” remembers Wendy.
Wendy worked part-time in the Main Street office before opening her own downtown business, Make Mine Country, which she ran for seven years. After closing, she returned to the Main Street office full-time for eight more years.
Currently, she serves on City Council, is a downtown realtor, and sits on the board of the Charles M. Fulenwider Thinkatorium Children’s Museum — a startup project working to bring museum downtown.
Wendy has been a mentor to the current Main Street Manager, a loyal volunteer, and a trusted advisor. With experience as both a business owner and a Main Street staff member, Wendy offers a rare and valuable perspective.
“Main Street is my love. I care about it and want to do my part to help support it moving forward.”
For her dedication, Morganton proudly honors Wendy Cato as its 2025 Main Street Champion.
