“I want reasons for people to call Murphy home.” says Victoria Ivie, Executive Director of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.

“I moved to Murphy five years ago after meeting my husband, a third-generation small business owner downtown. While on maternity leave, I was looking for something meaningful to do with my kids—and that’s when I started working on projects to improve our community spaces with family-friendly, inclusive outdoor recreation.”

“One of those projects was installing outdoor exercise equipment in the downtown park. It’s now live, usable, and functional—and I’m excited about that. My hope is that people of all ages and abilities will use it as a safe, welcoming place to get outside and stay active.”

“Another project close to my heart is improving playground accessibility. Our toddler section couldn’t be replaced due to limited funding—but now, thanks to a grant, we’re moving forward with new, inclusive amenities that children of all abilities can enjoy.”

“I want to help keep that small-town feeling in downtown Murphy—something for everyone who lives here and visits. Things are changing, which can feel scary at first—but it’s a sign of growth. And I believe it’s for the best.”

For her contributions downtown, Murphy is honored to name Victoria Ivie its 2025 Main Street Champion.
