When you think of the heart of downtown Mebane, you think of Peyton Rice Fuqua. As owner of Hen Feathers at the Elegant Relic, Board Secretary, and Chair of the Small Business Committee, Peyton has poured her heart into making downtown a place where both businesses and community thrive.
She helped bring two of Mebane’s biggest events to life—AutumnFest and the Nutcracker Gala—raising thousands to support downtown programs. But it’s not just the big moments that define her.
During a water crisis, when the town was without water for several days following Tropical Storm Chantal, Peyton helped distribute water. When flooding hit, she was there—clearing basements, sleeves rolled up, helping her neighbors and other downtown businesses.
“I love the history of the buildings, the charm of the stores, and the small-town sense of community in an ever-growing environment,” she says.
That love is shown in everything she does—and that’s why Mebane names Peyton Rice Fuqua as its 2025 Main Street Champion.
