2025 NC Main Street Champion

When Grant Goings arrived in Wilson in 2005, he saw downtown not just as a district—but as the catalyst for citywide economic development.
Under his leadership, the Wilson Downtown Development Corporation gained structure, funding, and a dedicated division within the city. Over two decades as City Manager, Grant steadily built the staff and capacity needed to help downtown thrive.
He championed transformative projects like the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, the Pine-Nash Redevelopment, and laid the groundwork for the new Wilson Baseball Stadium and Entertainment Complex.
Grant also understood downtown’s role as a gathering place—advocating for festivals, events, and community programming that brought people together.
During his tenure, private investment in downtown grew from under $1 million a year to over $50 million—a testament to his vision and commitment.
For his leadership, foresight, and lasting impact on downtown, Wilson proudly honors Grant Goings as its 2025 Main Street Champion.
