Behind every smooth event and clean street in downtown Fuquay-Varina is a dedicated team from the Public Works Department.

James Jordan, Gabe Briley, Mar’tice Baker, and Jerry Burch bring 16 to 30 years of experience to their roles—and it shows. From street closures to festival logistics, they’re the reason downtown stays welcoming.

James says it’s about balance: “Keep everybody happy, whether they’re coming to the event or trying to move around it.” He credits Mar’tice and Jerry for their hands-on support.

Gabe and his Solid Waste team are just as essential. “Whether setting up before a festival or cleaning up after a concert, we’re there, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.” And he adds proudly, “We love what we do.”

For their dedication, teamwork, and behind-the-scenes excellence, Fuquay-Varina proudly recognizes their Public Works Department as its 2025 Main Street Champion.
