2023 NC Main Street Champion
Taking the reins as the new Chair of an active Public Art Commission and implementing the artistic vision cast by a community can be a daunting task. However, for Casey Rodefeld, attention to detail, unwavering tenacity, and a flair for producing creative, fresh ideas are simply part of her DNA. Casey’s leadership sent the Newton Public Art Commission into overdrive. She spearheaded the creation and adoption of the city’s first comprehensive Public Art Plan, and coordinated artist selection, and installation of a widely acclaimed large-scale mural by international muralist Osiris (Ow-SI-Russ) Rain.
Casey also conceived and began implementing a citywide Utility Box Art Program—all during her first year as the volunteer leader of the Newton Public Art Commission. Casey is dedicated to the commission’s goal of acquiring and installing engaging pieces of public art instilled with Newton’s unique sense of place and contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of the city.
The Downtown Newton Development Association Board is honored to recognize Casey Rodefeld as its 2023 North Carolina Main Street Champion.
