Amy and Brian Burkhardt purchased a 1940s one-story building located at 153 White Street in 2017 The building had served as a barber shop for more than fifty years.
The Burkhardts renovated the building to house “Unwined on White,” an upscale wine and craft beer lounge, and a yoga studio. Their primary goal was to return the front façade to its original appearance. The interior renovation allowed for roof access with the goal of creating Wake Forest’s only rooftop patio bar. The yoga studio offers twenty-five classes per week, and the wine lounge is open seven days a week. They have also initiated wine and food pairing evenings, wine tastings, and special events.
The more than $500,000 project has created ten full-time and part-time jobs and has ten contracted yoga instructors. The historic building was designed to meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and the owners incorporated energy efficient mechanical systems and materials wherever possible.
They have a strong philosophy about supporting small family-run vineyards that pride themselves on sustainable practices, a component of their successful business model
