This session examines how downtown businesses become anchors, why some major destinations generate little benefit beyond their own doors, and how communities can better leverage existing businesses,

property owners, vacant buildings and targeted recruitment to strengthen entire blocks. Participants will learn how to identify existing and potential anchors, engage property owners using block-level data, prioritize critical vacancies, and recruit businesses based on how they complement the surrounding downtown ecosystem.
