Mike Conley: Marion

2021 NC Main Street Champion

Mike Conley is Marion’s greatest storyteller. Using his platform as a staff writer for the McDowell News, Mike not only supports Marion with his written words, but he also lobbies other news outlets for even broader exposure for Marion. Mike’s efforts landed a visit from Bob Garner of PBS NC’s North Carolina Weekend and a segment on the program showcasing Marion. If a new retail business, restaurant, or pub is opening in Marion, Mike is there to create a feature article for the small business owners. A Marion Business Association board member described Mike as “…a consistent supporter of downtown businesses and quick to use his platform to educate readers about local businesses, especially those that are new and could use the exposure.” Another said, “Mike goes over and beyond in his reporting of new businesses. He returns as a customer and promotes them personally.”

The Marion Business Association appreciates Mike Conley’s work and is honored to name him as its NC Main Street Champion.
