Facade Friday: Laurinburg, NC

Since March of 2016, the North Carolina Main Street Program has partnered with UNCG’s Interior Architecture Department and its Center for Community-Engaged Design to provide design assistance to designated Main Street and Small Town Main Street communities across the state. Undergraduate and graduate students are selected to become Main Street Fellows. The Main Street Fellows work with UNCG Interior Architecture Department Professors to complete facade rehabilitation designs and upper story apartment conversions in designated Main Street communities.

Friday Spotlight

116 Roper Street is a contributing building in the Laurinburg Commercial Historic District and sits along that street, between N. Main st. and Atkinson St.. This double-story brick commercial property was built circa 1924 and features 3 storefront bays delineated and framed by brick pilasters. The metal-framed storefront glazing sits on brick bulkheads and is topped with glass transoms. The Western most storefront entry is more deeply recessed with full-lite aluminum glass framed double doors. The upper facade features ten 6 over 1 windows with a middle and top cornice articulated with limestone accents and bands. The side facade is punctuated with several small single-paned windows across the upper facade and boarded over windows and doors along the lower facade The building contains multiple rear access doors.
